Frequently Asked Questions

In addition to the frequently-asked-questions, below, you are welcome to contact us with anything else on your mind. Write to: questions@bassfantasycamp.com .

Q. What is bassFantasy.08?

A. bassFantasy.08, August 23-27, 2008, is a unique event for bassists of all levels to learn from and be inspired by some of the very best drummers in the world - all in an intimate and personal setting.

Attendees will experience three-hour master classes with Stu Hamm, Tom Kennedy, and a third instructor. Also, drummers Dave Weckl, Steve Smith, Horacio Hernandez, Derico Watson, Jamey Haddad, will be there teaching drummers and interfacing with you during our "jam nights."

Q.  How do I know if I am at the right playing level in order to enjoy and appreciate this experience?

A.  bassFantasy.08 is designed for bassists of all levels.

The master classes are intimate and cover both broad concepts and more focused individual topics. There are only 15 people to a class so we recommend registering as early as possible to secure a spot.

Q. I have never been to Cleveland. What the deal?

A. Cleveland is great location for Bass Fantasy Camp and we're excited to have it there. The camp is within walking distance to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame + Museum, Progressive Field (formerly Jacobs Field), "The Q" (home of LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers), and great attraction like the House of Blues, the Warehouse District, and more!

Click here to read more about Cleveland and the Hyatt Regency.

Q.  What about food?

A.  Food is not provided, but the camp is being held at a high-quality Hyatt hotel in downtown Cleveland where you have many choices.

The Hyatt has its own restaurant and also offers room service. Additionally, the hotel is part of Cleveland's colonial arcade, which has a food court and an inexpensive breakfast stand with light breakfast items and Starbucks coffee.

Right outside of the hotel is Cleveland's "East Fourth" neighborhood with restaurants. Just five minutes away is Tower City Center, a downtown mall with a full food court. So, there are plenty of choices nearby.

Q.  Is this an overnight "camp" event?

A.  This is your choice. We have secured rooms at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Cleveland where classes are being held. The rooms are included for both "camp" packages and you will find this to be the least expensive way to stay in Cleveland.

If you stay with us, we will assign you a roommate. If you would like to stay with someone in particular, please let us know on the registration form and we will make every effort to accommodate you.

If you would like a private room, there is an extra fee (see the registration page after registration begins for details).

Please write to us at: questions@bassfantasycamp.com to notify us of private room requests.

Commuters are also welcome. Simply choose one of the non-camp packages, which are available at a lower cost.

Q.  I can't stay from Friday night through Tuesday. Can I come for only part of the camp?

A.  Unfortunatley not. Due to high demand for spots in the camp, we will not be selling partial camp registrations.

Q.  What will be the atmosphere of the camp? Is it competitive?

A.  Absolutely not. The philosophy of Bass Fantasy Camp is on par with the instructors who will teach there. That is - this is music, and music is not a competition.

From the large group sessions to the intimate master study groups and the "Groove Night" performances, you will learn and share perspectives in the most positive and professional manner. And we have found that many past attendees have stayed in touch after the camp.

There is a lot of bonding and sharing of information at the camp. It's a great atmosphere.

Q.  What kind of access will I have to the bass and drumming instructors?

A.  The entire staff will be available throughout the camp. Though they will need breaks just as all the campers will, you will find them hanging around between classes and in the food court just like everyone else.

These are great times to ask questions and get answers. We just ask that this be done in a courteous manner with the instructors and other campers in mind.

Q.  How old do you have to be to attend this camp?

A.  Bass Fantasy Camp attracts a wide range of age groups. Some of our campers are 15-year-old students and some are 60-year-old enthusiasts. All are welcome.

Participants must be 18 years-of-age to stay overnight at the camp alone. Participants who are under the age of 18 may stay overnight if accompanied by a parent (at an additional fee). Participants under the age of 15 must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

Q.  I am a music teacher and want to bring a group of students. Is there a discount?

A.  Absolutely. Please write to us at questions@bassfantasycamp.com to discuss a group discount.

Q.  What should I bring to the camp?

A.  Bring your bass! We will have extra amplifiers available to plug into. Make sure to bring a camera to capture some incredible memories!

Q.  What if I don't want to share a room? Can I get my own room?

A.  Yes, at an additional cost. This information is available on the registration page.

Q.  What styles of bass playing will be covered at the camp?

A.  The curriculum of bassFantasy.08 will focus on building a foundation of solid technique, practice routines, performance prowess, and music industry knowledge. Several styles will be addressed - and drummers of every genre are encouraged to come and grow in this rare and unique atmosphere.

See the about us page for more information about the instructors.

Q. Are the concerts open to the public?

A. Yes - anyone can attend the concerts. If you are registered for any of the camp packages, you automatically get one ticket. Once the concerts are announced, you will be able to purchase additional tickets.

Q.  Who is running this camp?

A.   bassFantasy.08 and drumFantasy.08 are owned and operated by OMC, a company that provides marketing and management services to professional musicians. The camp has been designed by OMC with the direct input of the instructors.
